Cerrado is a region in the state of Minas Gerais, the largest coffee-producing state in Brazil. Coffee has been a major crop in this region since the 1980’s mainly because of the devastating black frost of 1975 that forced growers from the Parana region to relocate north to Cerrado and other areas of Minas Gerais.
Brazil Cerrado coffee is known for its mechanical drying process, which helps ensure even drying and reduces the loss of coffee due to defects such as mold and rot. This process is particularly beneficial in the Cerrado region, where coffee is grown in rich soil known as "Terra Roxa" or "Red Earth," and other factors like consistent rains, high daytime temperatures, and dry winters combine to make the region ideal for coffee production
The mechanical drying process is used along with sun drying to achieve a well-balanced and high-quality coffee bean. This method allows farmers in the Cerrado region to cultivate more coffee with less physical manpower, bringing down the cost and making high-quality coffee more accessible.
